World GAYP Qualification Tournament 2011

The WCDF Qualification Tournament (QT) 2011 was held at the beautiful “Nyala Hotel” 18038 San Remo, Italy, from Wed 19th October – Sat 22nd October 2011 inclusive. It was hosted by the Federazione Italiana Dama (FID) and attracted a strong entry that included three former winners. After four days of competition a new champion emerged in the person of Sergio Scarpetta (Italy). He will now challenge Ron King for the World GAYP Championship title in 2012.

The women’s division attracted entries from Italy, Israel, and Turkmenistan. A new champion emerged in the person of 16 year old Erika Rosso (Italy), who scored a resounding victory over all her opponents. Her match against the World Women’s Checker Champion Amangul Berdiyeva (Turkmenistan) next year will be greatly anticipated.

The World junior GAYP Championship Tournament was won by yet another Italian player in Alessio Scaggiante (Italy).

Amangul Berdiyeva (Turkmenistan) Vs Hurmagul Toyeva (Turkmenistan)

The scheduled 20 game World Championship Match between Amangul Berdiyeva (Turkmenistan) and challenger Hurmagul Toyeva (Turkmenistan) took place at the “Balkan Welayat” in Balkanabat, Turkmenistan, from 3rd – 7th August 2011. The match resulted in a successful defense by the defending champion Amangul Berdiyeva, with a score of 9 wins, 1 loss, and 3 games drawn. Congratulations to challenger Hurmagul Toyeva for making a robust challenge. The match referee was Altyn Gurbanova (Turkmenistan) assisted by Gultach Madanova (Turkmenistan).

 The 40 game World Championship Match between defending World (3 Move) Champion Alex Moiseyev (USA) and challenger Michele Borghetti (Italy) was played at Cleveland, Ohio, USA from13th – 23rd August 2011. The match was an exciting affair and resulted in a win by the reigning champion with a score of 7-6 and 27 games drawn
